 1) allgemein: zeitliche Steuerung; synchrone Abstimmung verschiedener Handlungen, Abläufe aufeinander.
 
 2) Sport: 1) im Fußball der koordinierte Bewegungsablauf einer Spielhandlung (z. B. beim Torschuss oder beim Kopfballduell); 2) im Tennis die Abstimmung des Bewegungsablaufs der Schlagbewegung auf die Geschwindigkeit des anfliegenden Balls.

[englisch, 'tɑɪmɪȖ; wörtlich »Wahl des richtigen Zeitpunkts«], Begriff für das »richtige« Tempo, in dem Phrasierung und Artikulation gut zur Wirkung kommen, aber auch für das stilistische Empfinden, die Töne rhythmisch-metrisch in den Zeitablauf einzuordnen (Joe Viera: »das swinggemäße Platzieren der Töne«). In der Musizierpraxis finden sich dafür die Wendungen on top (exakt auf die Zeit), in front (etwas vor der Zeit) und laid back (etwas nach der Zeit).
